Boulevardia

Boulevardia is an annual celebration in the Kansas City region, highlighting the nation’s love for beer, food, music, and local artwork. While many folks I encountered were buzzing about the beer selection, my son and I had our minds set on one main attraction—BACON!

We always kick off our Boulevardia experience at the Farmland Bacon Club tent. Be prepared for your mouth to water as the irresistible scent of sizzling bacon fills the air for blocks.

As the saying goes, bacon is the star of the show, and there were plenty of fellow enthusiasts who echoed that sentiment. The tent bustled with fellow bacon fans, and whether you prefer your bacon crispy or chewy, ample samples awaited. My son kicked off his feast with a crispy piece before heading to the main stage for the Farmland Bacon Eating Contest.

While my son enjoyed his delicious bites, I explored the rest of the Farmland tent. I was particularly drawn to the creatively designed screen-printed shirts that sported phrases like “You Had Me At Bacon,” “I (beer mug) Bacon,” and “Dads Are Like Bacon They Make Everything Better” (just in time for Father’s Day) among others. It was delightful to watch so many attendees proudly flaunting their bacon enthusiasm throughout the event.

During our time at the tent, we also took the opportunity to sign up for the Farmland Bacon Club (which is free!) to enter for a chance to win a year’s supply of bacon. The sign-up process was quick and easy, allowing us to sample more delicious offerings before heading off to the main stage!

My son was eager to defend his 2015 title in the Bacon Eating Contest, joining eight other bacon lovers. Each contestant received a plate with 30 pieces of bacon, and the challenge was to be the first to clear their plate.

The competition was intense; my son (on the left) trailed slightly behind the leader, Dennis Montgomery (on the right), and decided to make a bold move by shoving nearly everything left on his plate into his mouth.

Ultimately, Dennis managed to finish his entire plate in under two minutes, claiming both the trophy and a year’s supply of Farmland Bacon.

The day was a blast at the West Bottoms in Kansas City, filled with live music, beer, and, of course, our beloved bacon, creating a memorable weekend experience.

Don’t forget to explore the Farmland Bacon Club website—join the club, discover recipes, and share your bacon passion!

Curious to witness how someone can consume 30 pieces of bacon in less than two minutes?

It looks like you both had a fantastic time, and it was wonderful that your son emerged victorious last year.

This looks like so much fun! While I’m not the biggest bacon fan, I do have a strong appreciation for craft beers!
