Join Us in Celebrating Earth Day by Recycling Your Old Cell Phones

Can you believe Earth Day is just around the corner?
On April 22, 2015, we’ll be joining others by decluttering our home of outdated electronics.
If I were to ask you about any unused smartphones or cell phones at home, I bet you’d likely have some.
Countless individuals replace or upgrade their devices, often stashing the old ones in drawers and forgetting they exist.

I’m guilty of this as well. While my pink Razr may not be the oldest, it certainly reflects the extent of my gadget collection.
Instead of letting these devices collect dust, why not donate them?
Each year, over 130 million Americans discard their old phones, and I suspect many of those devices are still in working condition.

Consider donating your functional phones to programs like Hopeline.
By gathering unused wireless devices and accessories, Verizon is transforming them into support for domestic violence shelters across the country.

Additionally, Verizon offers a Device Recycling Program where you can earn rewards! By submitting your old gadgets, you could receive a Verizon Wireless Virtual Gift Card or have a credit applied to your account, subject to eligibility.
Did you know recycling one million phones can extract around 75 pounds of gold, 772 pounds of silver, and 35,274 pounds of copper? This initiative not only conserves energy but also mitigates water and air pollution, including the emission of greenhouse gases.
Let’s work together to make a positive impact.
How about you… What is the oldest device hiding in your drawer?
Are you planning to donate it this Earth Day?

I love Earth Day! It’s a wonderful opportunity to involve the kids in learning about our impact on the environment. I believe the Recycle Bank online program allows you to send in old phones and devices in exchange for redeemable points.

I’ve got a device in my drawer that’s probably more than five years old! It’s time to recycle it, not just toss it. I appreciate the recycling information for Earth Day.
