Express Your Feelings This Mother’s Day
Special thanks to Hallmark for facilitating today’s dialogue. My views are entirely my own.
Recently, I was asked a thought-provoking question…
“This Mother’s Day, if you had to express something beyond ‘I love you’, ‘I appreciate you’, or ‘Thank you’, what would you say to your Mom?”

So many emotions raced through my mind. My instinct was to begin with “thank you”, but that phrase was off-limits.
Instead, I want you to know that I deeply admire the choices you made over the years, often prioritizing our family above yourself. You rarely voiced complaints, even when you put our needs first.
Thinking back, my heart fills with warmth at the memories of cozy nights by the fireplace, special shopping outings at the mall with delightful snacks, and lazy days by the pool.
I remember my teenage years, during which I would lash out at you with unkind words. It pains me now to think about how much that must have hurt you, and I only realize that now that I’m a mother too. I regret the additional stress I caused you during that challenging time.

I want to share that I had a joyful childhood full of lovely memories, which I know is a constant concern for mothers. You did your utmost with what you had, and I want you to understand that your best was truly remarkable.
I hold immense gratitude and affection in my heart. Admittedly, I slipped in a ‘thank you’ and ‘I love you’… but they come straight from the heart.
I love you, Mom.

This will be my sixth Mother’s Day without my mom, at least in person. I still feel her presence, reminiscing with my siblings, sharing laughter and tears over the memories. I wish I could tell my mom that despite the struggles, she did an amazing job raising us three!
