At this time of the year, it’s common for one of my kids to bring home a case of the “ugh.” As temperatures plummet into the 30s overnight and the weather turns damp and chilly, the kids are cooped up indoors. It’s almost like all the germs amplify their presence in close quarters. While I encourage a spirit of sharing among my children, I truly wish they would keep the germs to themselves.

I constantly remind my children to wash their hands regularly. Despite my best efforts, sickness seems to permeate our home. It’s present at all the playdates, birthday parties, and schools, even lurking around at the playground. My youngest recently brought home a persistent cough from school that’s been tough on him.

Fortunately, we’re well-equipped to combat the “ugh” with products like Children’s Advil®, Children’s Robitussin®, and Children’s Dimetapp®. This cough is particularly troublesome during the day, but it’s even worse at night when it affects his sleep, prompting Mom to take immediate action.

We are currently using the Children’s Robitussin® DM Day/Night Pack tailored for children. The non-drowsy daytime formula helps clear up his chest congestion, ensuring he can focus in class without constant coughing. Meanwhile, the long-lasting nighttime formula alleviates coughs and runny noses, allowing him to enjoy the rest he desperately needs.

Key points regarding “Ew-dentification”:

* A recent survey involving nearly 500 school nurses nationwide identified common habits among young children—including nose picking and improper handwashing—as the leading causes of germ spread in schools, reported by 69% of those surveyed.

* According to 77% of school nurses, winter is the season with the highest spike in illnesses.

* More than half (59%) of school nurses indicated that classrooms are the most germ-infested environments, followed by bathrooms, school buses, hallway handrails, and cafeterias.

* In nurse’s offices, the primary reasons for student visits are to request medication or ask to be sent home.

Kids always seem to catch something, no matter how much you try to prevent it. My two boys are no exception. I only took my younger one out for the second time on Sunday, and here we are!
