Making and keeping New Year’s resolutions can be quite challenging. This year, consider taking a unique approach. How about forming a resolution together with your furry friend? Remember, your dog is your loyal companion, and it’s only right to include them in your commitments!

Wondering how to create a resolution alongside your canine companion? Here are some suggestions.

Explore a New Activity – Is your pup a fan of the outdoors? Try going for more hikes together. If they love the water, kayaking is a fantastic option and most dogs enjoy being on the boat. There are numerous activities you can do with your dog, and platforms like Meetup.com can help you find local groups that host fun events for dogs!

Improve Oral Health – When you last visited the dentist, did they inquire about your daily flossing? It’s likely you answered affirmatively, even if that wasn’t entirely true! Healthy teeth are crucial for both people and dogs. Make it your goal to floss more regularly, and aim to brush your dog’s teeth each day to keep bad breath at bay!

Get Active – One of the most frequently made—and broken—New Year’s resolutions is to exercise more. If this is your goal, involve your dog in the process! For example, commit to taking your dog for a one-mile walk five times a week!

Focus on Nutrition – You already know the basics of healthy eating: limit processed foods and increase your intake of whole, natural options. In 2023, if you aim to improve your diet, make sure your canine companion also eats well. Check the ingredients in their food and opt for something that is both healthy and budget-friendly. I recommend the new Beneful recipes made with real meat, featuring beef or chicken as the top ingredient and no added sugars.

Whenever possible, we bring our dog along. He’s getting older now but still loves to dig and run. Venturing out to the countryside, especially to a friend’s house, is ideal as we can let him roam free. He is my walking companion, and having him with me is just second nature.

I can see how having a dog can really inspire you to get active. They are also incredibly beneficial for emotional health!
