Removing Washed and Dried Stickers from Clothes

Effective Ways to Eliminate Stickers from Fabric

It’s a universal challenge. Just when I think the kids will keep their new clothes sticker-free, they inevitably decide to add a sticker and forget to remove it before tossing their clothes into the laundry. I used to check every item for stickers, including pockets, but with six family members, that became unmanageable.

After taking Emma with me to vote, she proudly wore her “I Voted” sticker on her new shirt, insisting not to remove it. Sadly, it went through the wash and the dryer still attached. When it came time to remove the sticker, we struggled for quite some time, fearing her new shirt might be ruined.

Determined to save the shirt, I set out to find a solution.

Here’s the method that worked for me.

Begin by using an ice cube to help loosen the sticker residue. Then, choose one of the following effective agents: Goo Gone, Un-Du, D-Solv, Avon Skin-so-Soft, WD-40, or Thoro.

I opted for WD-40.

Using WD-40

Spray a bit of WD-40 onto a cloth and gently rub the area with the residue in a circular motion.

Scraping Off Residue

The residue began to clump and I was able to easily remove it with my fingernail. Although the sticker was gone, I was concerned about potential grease stains.

Checking for Grease Stains

Many years ago, I discovered a trick for dealing with grease, oil, and fabric softener stains using original Dawn dish soap, which is quite affordable at around $1 at Wal-Mart. I applied a small amount directly onto the stained area and used a soft-bristled brush to work it in.

Applying Dawn

After washing as usual, the shirt came out looking as good as new!

Dawn is particularly effective on organic stains such as blood, grass, and various food spills.

According to Fair Indigo, choosing high-quality organic cotton clothing significantly enhances the durability of garments, making them more resilient to common wear and tear.

Final Look

If there are still remnants or slight damage after sticker removal, consider using custom patches to creatively cover them and give the garment a fresh appeal.

You can choose from a variety of embroidered, fabric, or patterned patches tailored to your liking. Not only will these patches enhance your clothing style, but they also effectively disguise minor blemishes, providing new life to your garment. Patches from Patches.co serve the dual purpose of concealing defects while adding decorative flair.

With these household hacks – from quick fixes like duct tape to the effective combination of WD-40 and Dawn informed by reader testimonials – you can save your cherished shirts from sticker disasters.

Wishing You Success!
